Mar 3 2008 - I never realized how much enfluence children's books can have. I have been rereading the books I loved as
a child and I am having memories of how I felt when I read them and looked at the pictures. When I was a kid I loved the Berenstain
Bears. All their books try to teach some kind of moral or ethical principle. I remember as a kid when some of these ideas
were new to me, like being on the outside of an in-crowd, or being greedy, or even my first attempt at understanding tolerance.
It has been a real treat to relive some of my childhood milestones in thinking through these books.
Mar 10 2008 - I am really impressed with the quality of knowledge in some of the nonfiction books I am reading.
I have learned new things about the solar system and the statue of liberty. As adults I feel we sometimes think that
kids books are just for kids, that they don't have anything to offer us as adults. I have been guilty of that. Children's
books are really for everyone. Information or insights into mankind are important no matter what packaging they come in.
Mar 17 2008 - I started reading some of the Serendipity books by Stephen Cosgrove today! Wow they are the most beautiful
illustrations I have ever seen. I love the color and how vibrant and fun they are.

2008 – I have decided that all reference books should be like children’s informational books. They are so much
more interesting and always have great and imaginative illustrations. I have been reading about frogs and toads and I am fascinated
by how diverse and unique each species is. It makes me want to learn more about them and make sure that some of the cooler
species like the Wood frog (The only frog that lives north of the Arctic circle) are protected so they don’t go extinct.

2008 – I was surprised today while reading The Boy on Fairfield Street:How Ted Geisel Grew up to Become Dr. Suess.
I
learned that books Dr. Suess had written but not illustrated were published under the name Theo LeSieg. As a kid I used to
keep the books I had be Theo LeSieg with my Dr. Suess books. I always thought that they were very similar and now I now why.
If Frances wouldn’t have asked us to read 3 Land of Enchantment Book Award books, I never would have discovered this!
Apr 4 2008 – I got to spend some time reading to my nephew today. He has mild autism, and
has trouble staying focused on listening. It is challenging keeping his attention, you have to be overly expressive and animated
and even then he will loose interest sometimes. It is good practice and fun finding out what works with him and what doesn’t.
Apr 11 2008 – I have had a great experience reading Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis.
I must thank Frances for loaning me this great book! I took it with me to the hospital to read and my mom, Sean and I took
turns reading chapters in it. It has been a good experience reading it with family and having a mini lit circle. The book
is excellent, but what was most fun was listening to Sean read. He is a wonderful storyteller and uses his voice to convey
the character and style the book is written In. I want to be able to read like he does.

2008 – I just finished reading Island of the Blue Dolphin. It is such a lonely story. I have often thought about
being all alone on an island somewhere. I have always thought that it would be great. Even though, I don’t understand
why she doesn’t try again to use the canoe and find her people. She is obviously lonely and misses them. I think I would
try to find the people that I loved at any cost. It made me sad that she didn’t.
Apr 23rd 2008 – I have decided to use Stink and the Incredible Super-Galactic
Jawbreaker for my book sell title. I really enjoyed the story and the fun use of comics and idioms throughout the book. I
am going to read it to my nephews when they come to visit in May.
