Reflections from Ms. McDaniels-Hill's 6th grade class

Classroom Visit Reflections

Feb 11th 2008 – Today was my first time in Ms. McDaniel-Hill’s class. I have to admit that I was a little scared about this, especially since we hadn’t really discussed it or anything beforehand. But, I just jumped in and started talking to the kids and seeing how I could help them out. I ended up having a really great time with them and can’t wait to go back. The classroom environment was so laid back for me and the kids were bright and inquisitive. I noticed very early into the class that Beth has a strong focus on teaching the children to respect each other.  For a first experience in a 6th grade classroom, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Feb 18th 2008 - President's Day. No Class.

Feb 25th 2008 - Testing. No Class

Mar 3rd 2008 - Now that I am waiting for surgery I guess I will not have any more reflections.

Apr 27th 2008 – Lesson Plan- We are going to have the kids get in groups and perform some poetry. We are trying to tie this lesson in with the poetry slam that they learned about.

Apr 28th 2008 – I think that the lesson was a success. Several of the kids were very excited about it and wanted to share their own original poems. We were able to allow the students an opportunity to be creative and showcase their own talents as well.

Apr – 28th 2008 – Lesson Plan – Next week we are going to teach the kids about Haiku. We are going to prepare a bunch of signs (Construction paper and yarn) that the kids can wear around their necks. We are going to write words on each sign and divide the kids up into two groups and let them move around to make their own haikus. It will be kinda like a human magnetic poetry kit. I think that they will enjoy it quite a bit. This will be our last lesson and activity and will wrap up our poetry lessons.
