Thoughts about our classroom guests!

Jan 29 2008 - Yesterday Maxime the french chef came to visit our class. She was very interesting. She let us smell some of her perfume samples. I think REPULTION would be a good name for the one I got to smell. It will certainly keep unwanted people away. The visit was an interesting way to break the ice. I hope she comes back for more visits in the future.

Mar 7 2008 – Ricky Lee Allen gave a very interesting presentation on the purpose of schooling. He made a good argument saying that schools basically keep the socioeconomic divisions in place by offering a different type of education to children based on where they attend school. I think that this is probably true. I do think that different schools educate in different ways and richer communities and private schools tend to instill abilities that will help insure that the children of wealthy parents become wealthy themselves. Meanwhile, public schools are more concerned about test performance and don’t teach children to be creative problem solvers. They teach them to follow directions and memorize facts.
